NINE YEARS
Kurt and I have officially been married 9 years now. I really can't believe it; nine years sounds like such a LONG time! So, nine years and three kids later, the day went something like this.
Kurt: I took off from work on our anniversary!
Me: Oh, how sweet! Do you want to do something? We don't really have a sitter for the kids!
Kurt: Well, part of the reason I took off is that our lawn needs mowing. It's never been longer, and it's been raining for the last 10 days straight, so I need to get it done.
Me:OK. Great! After you get the lawn done I have a few errands to run; it's so much quicker to do it without the kids.
Kurt: Ok, then I will run to Lowe's to get mulch...
Well, you get the picture. We spent the day running in different directions, trying to skirt kid responsibilities while getting the most out of our individual time! I am assuming (I am hoping) this is a typical anniversary for most people in our position! But we came together for a great dinner (with the kids, of course) and ended our anniversary realizing how great our life has become, in the last nine years. (And we did get to celebrate the weekend before when we had an overnight in Philly, no kids included!) We were at least hoping to get a picture of us together on our anniversary, but:
no shot! It's truly just not about us anymore!
