Sadly, I didn't get everyone in pictures, and I didn't get pictures of the beautiful, water-logged tents!

It felt cold! But, I cruised my way through the bike ride (did I mention it was very hilly!??) and made up for some lost time in my swim. Even with my slow and heavy mountain bike, I did good time! (Don't ask about the swim---I did my usual "panic" mode in open water, and it took me a lot longer than I had hoped, and a lot longer than I could do the same distance in a pool!) The 2-mile run seemed very quick, even though I didn't do it that quickly. It was part trail run, part run over grass and tree roots, some concrete, and I was surprised that the 1/2 way point (turn-around) came up as quickly as it did. I was chatting with a friend for part of the way, and we weren't pushing too hard until the end was near!
Here are a few friends near the finish line--they made a banner and were cheering us on every leg of the race...it made all the difference in the world! This race was for males and females. My swim time was 13 minutes 11 seconds; bike was 50 minutes 48 seconds and run was 19 minutes 30 seconds. I came in number 147 out of 303 female racers; and for the females aged 40-44 I came in 27 out of 51. Some day I will make it out of my life of mediocrity, but in the meantime, I am pretty much middle of the pack!
(No, I can't even remember why Nicole was crying, but I know it was NOT because she was sad to see her baby brother off to school!)
OK, maybe I am a little nervous, but I think I'm going to like it here!
Jack didn't cry when Max and I said "goodbye," but he wouldn't quite look at us either. He came running to me when I picked him up 2 hours later, but for a few hours after that, he was mad at me! The same thing happened the 2nd day of school (he only has school 2 mornings a week), but he has been fine, and looking forward to school, since the first week!
I couldn't have been more wrong! I still haven't heard a peep, over a month later! Nicole loves being in school all day, and is doing extremely well. She is reading pretty well, doing great with spelling and writing, and claims that she is bored most of the day because everything is so easy! She loves eating lunch at school, and
Day number 3 of staycation: I had a previously-scheduled continuing legal education class that day, so Kurt and the kids were off to his parents for a fun-filled day of tickles, giggles and play!

(See, I told you Max and Nicole were getting along so well! We didn't ask them for this photo op, but I grabbed it when I saw it!)
The kids found a new favorite restaurant for outdoor dining! It's too bad for our wallets that it's not a typical kids' place at all! It's a fine dining restaurant with a casual side to their menu and a more casual outdoor seating area that we love! In Downingtown, no less! Max was trying his hardest to make a great bear's face!

When we were picking out the cake, Nicole assured me that the cake with the yellow icing and huge pink flowers was the one that grandpa would like the best!
The kids loved going to the camper to play and visit! Here we are relaxing before a cookout---the cooking was done just before the rain came, but the eating had to be done inside the camper!
Jack's favorite position in the camper was in the driver's seat. He really could barely control himself when sitting there---he would honk the horn over and over and over, even when he knew he was about to get into trouble! Doesn't look like he feels too badly about it!

I kept up with Erin for a while---here we are passing Firecreek in Downingtown---but I had to stop to take a breath at some point along the way, and I lost her quickly in the crowd!
Here I am nearing the finish line---it was a hard run for me. The roads were relatively flat, but I wasn't feeling great almost from the outset. I had to stop and walk a few times along the way. I got some energy back when I turned a corner and saw a finish line in sight, a ways up.
I was surprised, but I ended up beating the time in my last race, by about 30 seconds. Results: I came in number 402 out of 867 runners. My timing chip time was 28 minutes 12 seconds, and my gun time was 28 minutes 21 seconds (please don't ask me to define these, because I still have no idea!). My pace was 9 minutes 6 seconds per mile. I came in 15th out of 54 runners in my age group (females 40-44 years old) and I came in 130th out of 413 female runners, every age. I was miserable during this run, and as soon as I finished, I vowed that I would never run another one as long as I lived. I don't know what compelled me, mere minutes later, to tell my friend that I was going to look for one more in the next few weeks! I hate running and I struggle through it. There's no explanation other than I've been bitten by the 5K bug!!
And they're off...
They had to run to a cone and back (the distance wasn't even close to the touted 1K) and Kurt and I are quite proud that both of our kids came in almost dead last. Kurt told them to hit the books because there will be NO athletic scholarship in their future! I ran with Max and was pulling him back to the finish line, not even realizing that Nicole was actually behind us! She really did start out strong!
Yay for us!

(Note to self: Flying pony tail was quite distracting throughout run! Remember to do a low pony for tomorrow's run!) This 5K was a double-loop run which started with a big downhill and ended with a long incline uphill, and was mostly flat in-between. There were a lot less participants than the first run, and it had a lot of much faster runners!! I did beat my first time by almost 1 and a 1/2 minutes---my final result was 28 minutes, 52 seconds, pacing at a 9 minute 19 second mile, and placing 94 out of 150 runners. I was happy enough about the time, but not by my place! Must....do.....better! Must....do.....better!
I will post about tomorrow's run shortly! (Unless I do poorly, then you won't hear from me for quite a while!)

Summer fun has begun. I am hoping that Jack's aversion to grass on his feet will be outgrown. This could interfere with some serious backyard play!
The kids also had a great time watching a movie played on a large screen in a local park. (Put those feet in the grass, Jack! You have shoes on!)
Hmm, seems like only a mouth full of animal crackers can make him forget his feet-in-the-grass problem!
Another June favorite was a trip to the Lego store! We really could have spent hours in there, but for the nasty looks from the staff showing that we overstayed our welcome!

I think they should charge an hourly fee to let me drop my kids off while I shop!!
